CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Young golfers, ages 10-18, may improve their skills with the guidance of golf pros at the upcoming Nike Junior Golf Camps being coordinated by Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

The camp will run June 13-18. Organizers say it's a dynamic chance for junior golfers to immerse themselves in the sport. Golfers will head to Crab Orchard Golf Club, where they will play practice rounds all week.

Camp will cost $895 for residents and $795 for extended day commuters. Resident fees include golf instruction, on-campus housing and all meals. Extended-day fees include golf instruction, lunch and dinner (campers may participate in evening activities).

Nike Golf Camp Director Sarah M. Haas is involved with the USGA and is the director of competitions at Crab Orchard Golf Club and for the Southern Illinois Golf Association.

Lead instructors will include Crab Orchard Golf Club's golf director and former PGA "Teacher of the Year" Steve Heckel; SIUC men's golf coach Leroy Newton; and Joe Karmos, professor of psychology at SIUC, who has worked on the physical and mental sides of the game with some of golf's premiere instructors.
