CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A top official for the Boeing Co. is the featured speaker for the Southern Illinois University Carbondale Minority Aviation Council's annual recognition luncheon, set for Saturday, April 17.

Toni Bailey, vice president of community and education relations at Boeing, earned her bachelor's degree in philosophy in 1972 from SIUC.

"It'll be great to have an alum of her stature here on campus. As a vice president she's going to give a great perspective to our students," said David A. NewMyer, chair of the Department of Aviation Management and Flight. "She has a commanding view of such things as how they invest in higher education and also in terms of community involvement."

Former President George Bush recognized Boeing and its employees in 2001 with an Award for Excellence in Corporate Community Service from the Points of Light Foundation for their contributions and commitment to developing and managing effective employee volunteer programs.

The noon luncheon is in the Student Center Ballroom B. Tickets are $8 for students and $10 for the general public. Tickets are available in the Aviation Management office, at the Student Center ticket office and from council members. For more information call 618/453-8898.
