Media Advisory: Extern Program
The Alumni Association and Student Alumni Council of Southern Illinois University Carbondale will host a recognition ceremony Tuesday, March 30, to honor student participants in the award-winning Extern Program.
Reporters and photographers are welcome to cover the ceremony, set for 5:30 p.m. in the Student Center's Auditorium, located upstairs in the building's south wing.
Student externs and campus administrators will be available for interviews.
This year nearly 200 SIUC upperclassmen signed up as externs and spent spring break (March 8-12) working at such places as the Art Institute of Chicago, Boeing in St. Louis, Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in Atlanta and Denver's International Airport. In addition, students also served externships at several Southern Illinois companies, including Silkworm, the Southern Illinoisan, Southern Illinois Healthcare and WSIL-TV 3.
Now in its 20th year, the externship program matches University juniors and seniors with alumni and friends in professional work environments throughout the country.
The SIU Alumni Association and Student Alumni Council, in conjunction with SIUC's undergraduate colleges, administer the program. For more information, call the SIU Alumni Association at 618/453-2408.
