by Elizabeth Lively

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale is offering dance lessons with separate sessions available for beginning and intermediate dancers.

Session one meets Wednesday evenings from Jan. 28-March 3, while session two meets Wednesdays from March 24-April 28. Classes are $30 per person for each session. Gift certificates are available.

Beginning students meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and intermediate students meet from 8 to 9:30 p.m. in Davies Hall gymnasium, the first building north of SIUC's Anthony Hall.

New dancers will start with such Latin ballroom dances as the rumba, cha-cha and swing. And in session two, they'll learn the most popular smooth ballroom moves, such as the foxtrot, waltz and the tango.

Intermediate dancers will begin with club dances, including the nightclub two-step, the disco-era hustle and the West Coast swing. And session two will concentrate on the Latin dances, such as the samba, mambo/salsa and merengue.

All sessions will emphasize leading and following and dancing techniques.
