Media Advisory – Day of Service
Students at Southern Illinois University Carbondale on Friday, Jan. 13, will continue a longstanding tradition of community service that honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Members of the SIUC chapter of the Land of Lincoln AmeriCorps will work with the Jackson County 4-H program to make Valentines for U.S. soldiers serving overseas. Chapter members recruited friends and family members to also volunteer for the project. The SIUC chapter includes an Army veteran and a member whose brother just returned from Iraq.
The students will be making the Valentines between 9:30 a.m. and noon at the University of Illinois Extension office located at 402 Ava Road, Murphysboro.
