by Elizabeth Lively

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Learning in Retirement will celebrate its sixth anniversary with a special luncheon and presentation on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale's Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center, 150 E. Pleasant Hill Road.

Festivities begin with coffee at 9:30 a.m.

At 10:30 a.m., art aficionado Kenneth K. Collins will give the slide presentation "Turner in Switzerland: Some Rare Watercolors." Active during the Romantic period, the late J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851) was one of Britain's greatest artists. Many of his paintings reflect his fascination with the sea.

Collins doubles as an English professor at SIUC.

This program also is the inaugural Howard Webb Memorial meeting.

Lunch costs $10. To reserve a spot, sign up online athttp://www.dce.siu.edu or call the University's Division of Continuing Education at 618/536-7751.

Newcomers are always welcome.

Annual membership fee is $25 and is open to adults 55 and up who live within commuting distance of Carbondale.

Providing continuing education opportunities is among the goals of Southern at 150, the blueprint for the development of the University by the time it celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2019.
