CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Tried everything you can think of and still can't kick the habit or shed those extra pounds? Or perhaps you'd just like to learn to relax and get rid of stress.

Give hypnosis a try.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale is offering an 11-week evening class that will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Jan. 20 through March 30 in Pulliam Hall's Room 35.

Longtime teacher Don Benitone will lead the class.

Health-care professionals have used hypnosis for years to help people quit smoking, lose weight and reduce anxiety.

You'll learn the history of hypnosis, its potential benefits and techniques for inducing hypnosis to modify your own behavior.

Providing continuing education opportunities is among the goals of Southern at 150, the blueprint for the development of the University by the time it celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2019.

The enrollment fee is $49. Register online athttp://www.dce.siu.edu or by calling the SIUC Division of Continuing Education at 618/536-7751.
